How We Measure

Clevis Pins

The correct way to measure a Clevis Pin is by the diameter and "Grip" length. The diameter is the size of the shaft. The Grip length is the distance between the inside head of the pin and before the cross hole for the Cotter Pin or Ring Pin. The Grip length is the usable part of the shaft.

(Please see the example)

Cotter Pins
The correct way to measure a Cotter Pin is by the diameter and the length of the shorter leg. The shorter leg is measured from the inside of the head to it's end.

Circular Pins

Circular Pins are measured by their inside diameter. As a general

rule of thumb, these Circular Pins are used with the following Clevis Pins:

3/8" Circular Pins are used with 3/16" Dia. Clevis Pins.

5/8" Pig Tail Circular Pins are used with 3/16" & 1/4"  Dia. Clevis Pins

5/8"  Non Tail Circular Pins are used with 3/16" & 1/4"  Dia. Clevis Pins

3/4" Circular Pins are used with 1/4" & 3/8" Dia. Clevis Pins.

7/8" Circular Pins are used with Cast Pelican Hooks

1 3/16" Circular Pins our used with 1/2" & 5/8" Dia. Clevis Pins

Quick Release Pins

Quick Release Pins are measured just like Clevis Pins by diameter and Grip Length only the Grip Length is the distance from inside of the pull ring to the inside of the detent ball. The detent ball must be allowed its full range of motion in order to work properly.

Rigging Pins

Rigging Pins are similar to Clevis Pins but have no head and are generally longer in length. They have a through hole at each end and need to be retained with a Cotter or Ring Pins at each end. The Grip length is measured between the two cross holes.

Safety Pins

Safety Pins come in only one size. The Safety Pin has a generous one inch of length inside itself. It works great for 3/16" & 1/4" diameter Clevis Pins. The Safety Pin can be used with larger Clevis Pins but your results may very.

(Not for use on Diapers)

Left Hand Lock Nuts

Left Hand Lock Nuts are measured by their left hand thread size. Left Hand Lock Nuts only go on left hand thread and tighten when they are rotated counter-clockwise. Some people call this "Reverse Thread".

Right Hand Lock Nuts

Right Hand Lock Nuts are measured by their right hand thread size. Right Hand Lock Nuts only go on right hand thread and tighten when they are rotated clockwise.
